Francis (Fran) P. Manzelli, 79, of Yarmouth Port, passed away in the care and comfort of his loving family on November 19, 2020. Fran, the son of the late Attilio and Ida (Gatti) Manzelli, was born in Cambridge and raised in Watertown. He was the devoted husband for 51 years of Jane A. (Raftery), beloved father of Elena and her husband Jayson DeAngelis of North Reading and Erik Manzelli of Reading. Fran cherished his family more than anything especially being Papa to his four granddaughters, Julia, Chloe and Audrey DeAngelis and Stella Manzelli.
Fran is survived by his brothers, Robert A. Manzelli and wife Barbara of Watertown, Thomas P. Manzelli and his late wife Arlene of Bedford, and his sister Marilyn J. Cookson and her husband John of Marstons Mills. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, and friends who loved him dearly.
Fran was a proud graduate of Boston College, and has advanced degrees from Boston State College and Lesley University. He was a life-long educator. He started his career as an elementary school teacher, became principal of several public schools, Headmaster of two private schools and served as an Assistant Superintendent.
In his later life, Fran became a leader of the Republican Party on Cape Cod. He was recently re-elected as Republican State Committeeman for the Cape and Islands, served multiple terms as President of the Cape Cod Republican Club, Chairman of the Yarmouth Republican Town Committee, and long-term member of the Executive Board of the Barnstable Republican Town Committee. Fran also served on the Board of the West Barnstable Civic Association.
Fran relished spending time with family and friends - from traditional Italian Christmas Eve dinner to sunset cocktails on Millway Beach and touring the Cape in his convertible. He was a passionate, fun-loving, and charismatic man, who will be missed by all who knew him.
