Frank J. Vieira

Frank J. Vieira, 95, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2018 at the Sacred Heart Home in New Bedford.  He was the husband of Rita M. (Joia) Vieira.

Born in Taunton, Mr. Vieira was the son of the late Joseph A. Vieira and Jennie (Joseph) DaRocha.  Mr. Vieira was a shipboard marine engineer for Exxon Mobil for many years.  He retired in 1982.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the former Benjamin Cushing V.F.W. Post in Marion.  He enjoyed Boston sports, especially the Celtics, Red Sox and Patriots.

Survivors include his wife Rita M. Vieira of New Bedford; two sons, Brian Burton and his wife Nancy of Fairhaven and Kevin Burton of Temecula, CA; his daughter, Sharon Joia of New Bedford; 3 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his son, the late Bruce Burton and his grandson, the late Trevor Joia.

His funeral will be Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018 from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rt. 28), Wareham at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony’s Church, Gault Road, W. Wareham at 10 AM.  Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Wareham.  Visiting hours will be Monday from 4 – 7 PM.
