It is with great sadness that the family of George M. Hart Jr. announces his passing on Thursday July 23, 2020 at the age of 80.

George was born August 5th,1939 and was the son of the late Margaret (Thibideau) and George M Hart Sr. He grew up in Rockland, MA where he graduated with the class of 1958 from Rockland High School. George met the love of his life, Joan MacDonald, in 1961 and the two were wed in December of the same year. They settled in East Bridgewater where they raised their family. George worked as a supervisor at the local Stop and Shop for 47 years.

George was charismatic and playful, sparking laughter and love from everyone he met. He was adored by many with his contagious happiness and his wit. George was voted Citizen of the Year in 2013 for his commitment and willingness to continuously donate his time for the community he was an active part of. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus as well as a member of the East Bridgewater Lions club where he became a past District Governor for district 33S.  With the Lions Club, he was pivotal in raising awareness for Mass Eye Research and refurbished glasses and hearing aids to disadvantaged children and adults. It was this commitment that propelled him above others in winning the Citizen of the Year award. After his retirement George became a fixture in the center of East Bridgewater working as a crossing guard.  His job was to make sure children were able to safely navigate the difficult intersection, as well as provide safe passages through the center for emergency vehicles. The children flocked to his side for protection and laughter.  Helping children was a big part of his commitment to community.  He also hosted a cable show for 12 years called “Focus Today”, that covered topics such as teenage drugs, politics and current community issues.

George is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Joan R Hart, and five children Karen Milero (Mark) of Brockton, MA, Mary Willett (Daniel) of Bourne, MA, Maureen Webb (Cory) (deceased- Todd) of Cle Elum, WA, David Hart (Keri) of East Bridgewater, MA, George Baldwin-Hart (Michael) of Tacoma, WA. He is also survived by his thirteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was the brother of Maureen Bouquet of Hull, MA and uncle to many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by countless others beyond his family whose lives he has touched.
