George W. Mersereau

East Falmouth - George W. Mersereau, 92, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2017. Born March 25, 1925 in Doaktown, New Brunswick, Canada, he was the son of the late Reginald Mersereau and Marguerite Hovey.

George was predeceased by his wife, Nellie David, his sister Doris Rutledge, and his brothers, Herman, Gerald and James. He is survived by his brother Norris Mersereau and his wife Elizabeth of Plano TX, sister Patricia Rogerson of Bartlett NH, daughter Bobbi Mersereau and her husband Kevin McDonald of East Falmouth, son Duane Mersereau and his wife Carol of Marshfield; grandchildren:  Evan Steiner and his wife Elise of Hingham, and Jeremy Steiner and his wife Devika of California and his two great grandchildren, Trevor and Lily Steiner of Hingham, and many nieces and nephews.

George proudly served in the Army as a Private First Class. He joined the US Army when he was 17, as a member of Company A, 188th Engineer Combat Battalion. While in the army, his battalion landed on the beach in Normandy, France in Operation Overlord and he was at the Battle of the Bulge in Ardennes, Belgium, LUX. He received several medals and ribbons for his service and during his tour he was honored to personally meet General George S. Patton.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Ave, Bourne.
