Geraldine P. Souza

Geraldine P. Souza, 85, of Wareham, died Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Seasons Hospice in Milton.  She was the beloved wife of the late William Souza, Jr.

Born in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Gruntmeyer) Goyette.  She moved to Wareham where she graduated from Wareham High School.

Mrs. Souza owned the Mattapoisett Diner for many years.  She then received her certification in culinary arts education and was a culinary arts teacher at the Whaling City Jr./Sr. Alternative School in New Bedford.

Along with her husband, Mrs. Souza wintered in Florida for many years.  She truly loved her Polynesian Village community in Englewood, FL.   She enjoyed travelling.

She is survived by her loving children, Dean J. Souza and his wife Dara of Duxbury, and Dale J. (Souza) Sylvaria and Dione J. Souza both of New Bedford; her cherished sisters, Paula Billard and Genevieve Aldred both of Wareham.  She was the devoted grandmother of Brett Souza, Nicole Souza, and Jackson Sylvaria.  Also surviving are several treasured nieces and nephews.  Mrs. Souza was predeceased by her brother, the late William “Biffy” Goyette.

Her funeral will be from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy. (Rt. 28), Wareham on Sat., Mar. 30, 2019 at 8 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony’s Church, Gault Rd., West Wareham at 9 AM.  Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, New Bedford.  Visiting hours have been omitted.
