Gilbert (Gib) Sterling Geiger, 90, of Brewster, MA died peacefully in his home with family by his side, on April 13, 2017. Gib is survived by his beautiful wife Jane of 64 years; his daughter Gay Hughes and her husband Charlie Hughes with their daughter Colleen; his son Gib Jr. and his wife Sue Geiger with their daughter Katelyn Renaud, husband Frank Renaud, and new baby Everly; and daughter Molly Doody, husband Luke Doody; his son Eric and his wife Wendy Geiger with their daughter Hannah.
Originally from Cheshire, New Milford, and Warren, CT, Gib graduated from Arnold College following his return from service in the Navy 7th Fleet during WWII where he received the Phillippine Liberation Ribbon, American Theater Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal, and Victory Medal. Gib taught Math and Phys. Ed. at the Foote School in New Haven, CT from 1953-1955.
Gib was a Supervisor and Manager for Waters Construction Corp., New Milford, CT for many years, retiring to the Cape with Jane in 1993. Gib was a District Director for and member of Conn.'s Exchange Clubs, a Registrar of Voters for Cheshire, CT, and a member of: Temple Lodge #16 A.F. & A.M., Post 92 American Legion, and Post 10052 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Gib enjoyed many sports. He taught dancing professionally, was a founder of the Housatonic Hockey League, played tennis, enjoyed swimming and diving, and, coached/umpired/refereed hockey and softball. Gib and Jane met on the school bus traveling from their homes in Cheshire, CT to attend High School in New Haven, CT. They both sang in school productions of Gilbert & Sullivan and continued to harmonize together for all of Gib's years.
Following retirement, Gib and Jane moved to Brewster, Cape Cod after many wonderful summer vacations spent in Wellfleet. Gib loved his granddaughters Colleen, Katelyn, Molly, and Hannah. Fond memories were made at the beach on Pleasant Bay, swimming together, sunning together, collecting shells, and building sand castles. Crabbing at Grays Beach, Yarmouthport was shared by Gib and his grandchildren with much joy, laughter, and remembrance.
Gib and Jane loved Pleasant Bay. They had their own favorite spot on the beach where they could be found having a cup of coffee or lunch, watching the bird life and sail boats from their sand chairs. Gib loved to calculate the tides on Pleasant Bay and there wasn't a day throughout the summer that he didn't know what they were. The beach on Pleasant Bay was fondly referred to as "Geiger's Beach" by their friends. Gib was the President & Trustee of Pleasant Bay Heights in 1998. Gib was a friend of Bill W. since 1975, and had served as secretary for the state of CT AA and Chairman of their State Convention. Gib's strength, humor, compassion, and his guidance to fellow Bill W. members will be so very missed. His spirit will live on in all he touched.
