Helen A. Guasconi
1918 ∼ 2017
Helen A. (Wajcium) Guasconi of Bridgewater passed away Sunday, September 3, 2017, at the age of 98. She was the loving wife of the late Gino C. Guasconi. Born in New Bedford on October 29, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Wajcium and Elzbieta (Kusleika) Wajcium. At the age of 9, after the death of her mother, she moved to Bridgewater. She was raised and educated in Bridgewater and graduated from Bridgewater Academy High School in 1938 .
Helen worked for many years in the garment industry and was a sought after seamstress. Her sewing talents enabled her to create clothes for many friends and relatives. She loved to see people wearing an outfit that she had created for them, whether it was a child’s coat or a dress for a wedding. When her children were in school, she was also employed for many years as a cafeteria worker in the Bridgewater Public Schools. After retirement, she continued her love of sewing, knitting and crocheting. She took great pleasure in seeing her grandchildren and great- grandchildren wearing items she had made for them. Helen’s greatest pleasure came from her closeness to her family. She enjoyed her annual family vacation each summer on Lake Winnipesauke, watching her three grandchildren learn to ski on winter vacations, and her many other vacations with her daughter and her son and his family. Most recently, her greatest joy was watching and playing with her five great-grandchildren. Whether helping her family to cook an Italian meal, singing a Lithuanian song, or simply watching her great grandchildren ride their bicycles, the most important point to her was that she was with her family. Even at the age of 98, Helen was a regular communicant at St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Basil’s Chapel in Bridgewater.
Helen is survived by her daughter Gina, her son George and his wife Judy, and her three grandchildren: Elaine Cashman and her husband Kevin, Liesl Bourque and her husband Matthew, and Dean Guasconi. She also leaves five great grandchildren: Hailey Cashman, Emily Cashman, Ronan Cashman, Liana Bourque and Calia Bourque. In addition she has many loved nieces and nephews.
Along with her late husband, Gino, she was the sister of the late Bella Messaline, Anne McKenna, Albina Kerrigan, John Wajcium and Bronislaw Wajcium. She was also the step-mother of the late Sandra Guasconi Thompson.
