Henry C. Dolan

1929 ∼ 2020

Henry Clement “Buddy” Dolan Jr., 91, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on January 13, 2020 in South Dennis, MA.

Henry was born on June 12, 1929 to Helen and Henry Dolan Sr. of Somerville, MA. After serving in the Navy from 1946-1950, he continued serving his country as a civilian for the Boston Naval Shipyard and eventually retired as an accountant from the U.S. Department of Defense.

In 1956, Henry married Nancy Ann Snow of Somerville, MA. Nancy and Henry went on to have four daughters, Laura, Linda, Lisa and Kathleen. They resided in Belmont, MA for over 15 years before retiring to Cape Cod.

Henry graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Boston State College in 1981 at the age of 52 fulfilling his lifelong goal of receiving a college degree. He was a proud member of the VFW, DAV, and Knights of Columbus.

Henry, “Buddy,” was a man who especially came alive in the company of others. He loved reminiscing on stories of days gone by. If you had the time to pull up a chair and pour a cup of tea, he would fill those moments regaling you with the anecdotes of his life and travels and discussing current events. He was an avid reader of wartime books and could easily be considered a war historian. He enjoyed playing cards with friends and trading jokes. Buddy and his wife Nancy shared a passion for British TV spending many nights watching their favorite shows together.

Henry was predeceased by his father and mother, his sister, Margaret Plummer, and his brother, Frank Noonan.

Henry is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Nancy Ann Dolan, his daughters, Laura-Ann Houlihan married to John Houlihan Sr. of Melbourne, FL, Linda Roach of Norwood, MA, Lisa Dolan-O’Brien of Jamestown, NC, and Kathleen Moore married to Ely Moore of Wilmington, NC, as well as, his adoring grandchildren, Ashley and John Houlihan Jr., Brian and Caroline Roach, Justin and Dani O’Brien, Thomas Moore and many nieces and nephews.

Henry was laid to rest at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA with full US Navy honors during a private service. Family and friends are welcome and encouraged to come and visit him (Sec F9-C34).
