Herbert Nyberg, “Herb”, 90, of Falmouth, MA formerly of West Boylston, MA, passed peacefully on October 6, 2018. Born in 1927, in Pawtucket, RI, to Herbert G. and Helen V. Nyberg. Preceded in death, by his loving wife, of 51 years, Teresa Bodell.
Herb served in the Air Force, in the Pacific, during WWII and received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. Herb worked for Amica Mutual Insurance, in Worcester, MA, for 35 years. He received his associate’s degree from Quinsigamond Community College. A favorite memory of Herb’s was in 1961, when he took his family cross county by train to visit his relatives in CA. He was past president of Our Lady of Good Counsel Men’s Club in West Boylston, MA. Upon retiring, he and his wife moved to Falmouth, MA, where he made many more friends that he felt “so fortunate to have”. He was an active member of Falmouth Elk’s Lodge 2380, and the Past Exalted Ruler from 1996-97. In his free time, he could be found playing cribbage and golf.
Herb, and his sparkling blue eyes, will be forever remembered by his children, Mary Ellen O’Connor of Yardley, PA, Herbert J. Nyberg of Old Lyme, CT and Teresa Ann Nyberg-Grim of McLean, VA, and their spouses, along with his 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
He will be lovingly remembered by his cherished friend and companion, Karen Gavel, of North Grafton, MA.
He is survived by his siblings, Hope Economou, Charles R. Nyberg and Donald Nyberg, his brother-in-law, Joseph Trustey, and an abundance of nieces and nephews.
Dad will be remembered for his positive attitude and how thankful he always was for everything in his life, especially how “the Man Upstairs has been good to me”.
Visiting hours will be held from 1-4 Sunday, October 14, 2018 at Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home 475 Main St, Falmouth MA. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:45 Monday at St. Patrick’s Church 511 Main St Falmouth, MA. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
