Howard A. Lane

Howard A. “Brud” Lane, 90, of Waquoit and formerly of Newton MA, passed away on May 4, 2017 at the Falmouth Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Louise (Swenson) Lane for 65 years.
Brud was born in Trenton, New Jersey in 1927 and was raised in Newton MA. He went to Newton High School and Fishburne Military Academy in Virginia. After graduation, Brud served for two years at the end of World War II in the 385th Air Service Group of the United States Army. He was among the first American troops to occupy Japan after their surrender.
In between working for New England Telephone and Telegraph for nineteen years, Brud had many occupations and endeavors involving boats and going to sea, including: teaching sailing at the Camp Bennett sailing camp for boys in West Falmouth; sailing on the original R/V Atlantis out of Woods Hole; working as a commercial lobsterman for eight years on his own boat, the “Louise S”; working as a captain on a collection boat for the M.B.L.; and working in several boatyards. He loved to go clam digging and fishing with his wife and two growing sons.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Louise Swenson Lane, his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Kimberly Lane and their children, Alexander and Sophia, of Monument Beach, and his son William Lane of East Falmouth. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Jeanne Lane of New Harbor, Maine and several nieces.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, May 13th, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. with a funeral service at 11:30 at Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 584 West Falmouth Hwy (Route 28A), West Falmouth.
