Irene J. (Cormier) Dagesse, 82 of Bridgewater, MA, wife of Paul for 62 years, died after a period of failing health at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton on July 13, 2020. Irene was born on June 6, 1938 in New Bedford and was the daughter of Edward and Beatrice ( Davignon) Cormier. She grew up in Melrose and was a graduate of Melrose High School class of 1956. She married Paul on September 28, 1957. She and Paul moved to Brockton to raise their family of 3 children and lived there for 22 years before moving to Bridgewater where she would become a member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Parish.
Irene worked for several years at John Hancock before marrying Paul then worked at Gilgrist Department Store and then Bradlee’s Department store where she later retired. She also worked as a secretary for Bettencourt’s Trucking in Westport, MA. She enjoyed many trips to Florida after her retirement as well as cruising, bingo, arts and craft and shuffleboard. She also loved traveling to their vacation home in Shapleigh, Maine and their condo in Ashland, NH.
Irene is survived by her husband Paul Dagesse of Bridgewater, MA and daughter Pauline Dagesse of Taunton, MA. She was preceded in death by their two sons, Laurent Dagesse of Washington, NH and Edward Dagesse of Brockton, MA. She is also survived by her sister Vivian (Cormier) Hines of Billerica, MA, a brother Richard Cormier and his wife Linda (Garbetti) Cormier of Farmington, ME and another brother who preceded her death, Edward Cormier, Jr., five grandchildren including Kerri (Dagesse) Lemire and her husband Charles (Chuck) of Lancaster, MA, Derek Dagesse and his wife Lisa (Bernier) Dagesse of Raynham, MA, Kevin Dagesse and his wife Jessica (Miles) Dagesse of Medfield, MA, and Jeffery Dagesse of Washington, NH as well as five great grandchildren including Charles (Charlie) and Emma Lemire of Lancaster, MA, Chase and Alex Dagesse of Raynham, MA. She is also survived by several nephews, neices and cousins.
Arrangements are provided by Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home in Bridgewater, MA, 98 Bedford Street, on Monday July 20, 2020 a visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Brockton, MA. A mass will follow at a later date at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Bridgewater, MA.
