Irene L. Knell

Irene Louise Knell, 90, of Osterville, and formerly Ruskin, Florida, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 30, 2019, surrounded by her three sons and loving family.  She was the beloved wife of the late Ralph Douglas Knell for 64 years.  Born in West Roxbury, Irene was the daughter of the late Carl and Louise (Luippold) Rose of Cohasset.

Irene was a graduate of Roslindale High School and was an Administrative Assistant for the Town of Barnstable school system for 20 years before retiring to Florida. She was a member of the Ruskin United Methodist Church and United Methodist Church in Osterville.

Irene enjoyed playing cards with friends, traveling in her motor home, completing challenging crossword puzzles, baking, and she loved to sew and knit, especially for babies in the family.  She was a lover of all birds and animals, and most of all her rescue cat Beau.

Irene is survived by her children, Paul D. Knell and his wife Gail of Dennis Port, Kenneth C. Knell and his wife Ann of East Dennis and Howard R. Knell and his wife Judith of West Barnstable; 10 grandchildren: Paula, Brian, Christopher, Michael, Erik, Michael, Neill, Christina, Bobby and Bethany; and 18 great grand-children.  Her brother, Charles Rose of Cohasset predeceased her.

Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 am on Saturday, August 10, 2019, at the United Methodist Church, 57 Pond Street in Osterville followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am.  Burial will follow in Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit.
