James D. Lucia, Sr. of Bridgewater died June 2, 2019 in the Brockton Hospital at the age of 77. James was born in Memphis, TN, son of the late Shirley (Flannigan) and Guy C. Lucia. Jim was raised and educated in New England and graduated from Cambridge High School in Jeffersonville, Vermont.
Loving father of Jamie D. Lucia-White of South Easton (and her wife Bonnie) and James D. Lucia (and his girlfriend Nicole West) of Bridgewater. The oldest and the most handsome of four brothers, David Lucia of Wales, MA, Thomas Lucia (Judy) of Idaho, and Guy "Gary" Lucia (Cheryl) of Wales, MA. Adoring grandfather of Bridget Lucia, with whom he spent seven loving years.
Jim served in the United States Army where he was the director of the 60th Army Band at Fort Polk, LA. In addition, he served in the Army National Guard and performed in the 215th Army Band in Fall River until his honorable discharge in 1987. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree (1969) and Master’s degree (1974) in music from Miami University of Ohio. He pursued a career in music education in the Hamilton, Ohio schools and directed the band at Garfield High School. Around 1978, he moved back to Massachusetts and worked for over 30 years in the insurance industry where he owned and operated the Lucia Insurance Agency until his death. For many years, he was an active member of Central Square Congregational Church (Bridgewater MA) and most recently North Congregational Church (Middleboro MA). His involvement included serving as a deacon, participating in the choir, various committees, and participating in book & bible study groups. Over the years, he followed his love of music and playing the tuba by playing in various band and orchestral groups. He has been a part of the Abington Community Band, the Bridgewater State College Wind Ensemble, and the Brockton Symphony Orchestra. He was an avid New England sports fan who spent much time watching the Red Sox and Patriots with his family.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday June 12, 2019 from 4-7pm in the Prophett-Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home 98 Bedford Street Bridgewater.
A Funeral Service will be held in the North Congregational Church Middleboro UCC 38 Plymouth Street Middleboro Thursday, June 13th at 10 am.
Memorial donations in honor of James D. Lucia, Sr. may be made to North Congregational Church United Church of Christ or the American Heart Association.
