James F. Lyons Jr., 85, of Yarmouth Port, formerly of Cotuit, passed away at Cape Cod Hospital on October 6, 2019. Loving husband of the late Margaret Lyons who died in 2016. Born in Boston, son of the late James and Emily (Cooper) Lyons, Jim was a graduate of St Mary’s High School in Brookline and Mass College of Pharmacy.
As a teenager, Jim worked selling peanuts at Fenway Park. He had a long and extensive career in healthcare. Jim first came to Cape Cod and worked as a pharmacist when Falmouth Hospital opened in 1962. He then moved on to Cardinal Cushing Hospital in Brockton and later worked as President of St. Anne’s Hospital in Fall River. He finished his career at Cape Cod Healthcare where he served as CEO from 1981-1999 until his retirement. He served as trustee on several boards including Mass College of Pharmacy, Mass Hospital Association and Cape Cod Five. He was a well-respected leader in both the community and his professional career.
He enjoyed boating, fishing, and even ran a small charter fishing boat early in his life. He loved sports, he and his wife opened their home to players in the Cape Cod Baseball League. He enjoyed many trips and adventures abroad with Peg and friends.
Jim is survived by his daughters, Margaret (Peggy) Scheller and her husband Charles of Hanson, MA, and Molly Fedele and her husband Todd of Marstons Mills, MA., his siblings, Susan Evans of CA and Albert Lyons of Stoughton, along with his grandchildren, Matthew Scheller, Morgan and Jaye Fedele.
Visiting hours will be on Friday, October 11, 2019 from 4-7PM in the John-Lawrence Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Rd., Route 28, Marstons Mills, MA.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10AM in Our Lady of Victory Church, 230 S. Main St., Centerville, MA. Burial will follow in Mosswood Cemetery, 280 Putnam Ave, Cotuit.
