James J. Sughrue, of Falmouth, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Somerville, son of James P. & Kathleen V. (Riordan) Sughrue on November 20, 1930.
James graduated in 1948 from St. John’s High School in North Cambridge. He proudly served in the Navy aboard the USS Bache DD-470 from 1951-1955. He was a Radioman on the destroyer and did two tours to the Mediterranean. Jim married his sweetheart Ruth M. Gill on June 8, 1956. After graduating from Boston College in 1959, he was hired by William Reagan of Fitchburg and was later on hired as a CPA at Charles Writtenhouse then Controller with The Green Company of Boston. After years of commuting he decided to open his own CPA firm with his wife in 1973 and successfully established himself in Falmouth. He recently retired April 15, 2018. A communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Falmouth, also a long time member of the Falmouth Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club, United States Power Squadron.
Jim will be remembered as a hardworking, loving, generous and self-less family man. His love of Sunday River, Bethel Maine was evident, as he drove with Ruth weekends through many ski seasons for his kids, their friends, many nieces and nephews. Also enjoying many good times in Maine with his brothers and their families. Later with his grandchildren.
Jim was predeceased by his wife Ruth M. Sughrue. Loving Dad of Kathleen M. Johnson, James J. Sughrue, Jr. and Eileen M. Hinsman. Proud Grandfather of Amanda Hinsman, Casey Sughrue, Richard Sughrue, Robert Johnson, Kelly Hinsman, Timothy Sughrue, Carly Sughrue, Ryan James Johnson and Proud Great-Grandfather of Eve Brandes. Brother of John P. Sughrue and Brother-in-law of Ruth H. Sughrue and loving Uncle many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours from 4-8pm on Tuesday, June 11th at Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Falmouth. A eulogy followed by Funeral Mass will begin at 10:45am on Wednesday, June 12th at St. Patrick Church, 511 Main Street, Falmouth. Burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Gifford Street, Falmouth.
