James M. Fottler, retired Sergeant of the Fall River Police Department, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, November 25, 2020. James was the beloved husband of Marion L. (Johnson) Fottler for 55years. His undying love and devotion to his wife was his most important accomplishment.
James was born in Boston, MA, he was the son of the late Theodore and Mabel (Lane) Fottler. Mr. Fottler served in the United States Army from 1963-1965. He then served in the United States Army Reserve from 1965-1969. James later served in the Massachusetts Air National Guard from 1976-1980 where he earned an honorable discharge.
Mr. Fottler was appointed as a patrolman in the Fall River Police Department in 1973. He retired as Sergeant of the Traffic Enforcement Division in 2002. James was a true perfectionist and master of all trades. His talents ranged from master miniature furniture and doll house maker to wallpaper hanger/painter to washer of dirty pans.
He was the devoted and much loved father of Marion Koss of Taunton, Julia Duarte and her husband Thomas of Tiverton, RI, Lynda Hampton and her husband Avery of Largo, FL, James M. Fottler, Jr. of Taunton, and Angela Dubaz and her husband Anthony also of Taunton; devoted and much loved grandfather to Theresa, Nicholas, Max, Jamie, Ben, Michelle, Julie, Sherri, Timothy, Elizabeth, Colin, Alex, Ryan, Nicholas and Luke; devoted and much loved great-grandfather to Arianna, Alison, Marley, Piper, Grayson and Kyle. He was the brother of Mary (Fottler) Roos and the late Robert, Edward, Madeline, Barbara, Nancy and Dorothy. He was also the loving uncle of many nieces and nephews.
All are cordially invited to the Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. Bridgewater MA on Monday, Nov. 30th for visiting hours from 5-7pm. A PRIVATE funeral home service will begin at 7pm.
