Jane Colson Butler of Bridgewater, formerly of Melrose, MA, and Bass River, Cape Cod. Died June 3, 2019, age 94. Married for 56 years to the late Attorney Paul F. Butler. Beloved mother of Brian (Bridgewater), Linda (Northampton), Craig (Maggie, Orono), Suzanne (Mark Klyza, New Orleans), and Diana (deceased), and beloved Nana to six grandchildren: Shiuan and Daniel Butler, Miles (Emily Baecher) and Clare Montgomery-Butler, Emily (David Strauss) and Andrew Klyza, and two great-grandchildren, Peter and Darcy Montgomery-Baecher.
Jane grew up in Medford, MA, and graduated from Medford High School. She attended the Jackson von Ladau School of Fashion in Boston. In her career as an executive secretary, she worked in Boston, San Francisco, and Honolulu, and as a professional artist, she had a fabric painting business in Delaware. A former cover girl for GLAMOUR Magazine, she modeled in Boston, New York, London, and Paris. She was a past member of the Melrose Symphony Board of Directors, a member of the Academy of Lifelong Learning (Barnstable), and an active advocate for the brain injured in the Commonwealth and her community.
Jane's creativity and her love of art and design found expression in painting, interior design, and flower gardening. She enjoyed reading, summer vacations in Maine where she had deep attachments to her family history, and rooting for the Red Sox and the Patriots. But most of all, she loved having her family around her. For almost four decades, she was a tireless caregiver and advocate for her daughter Diana, who was stricken as a young woman with Pick’s Disease.
Jane is fondly remembered for her sense of style and grace, her sensitivity, and her care for those around her.
Family and friends will gather in remembrance at the Prophett-Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home in Bridgewater on June 16 from 1-1:30 pm.
