Janet Rischmann, 91, of Centerville and Ft. Lauderdale, FL passed away on July 5, 2017 at home surrounded by family.
Born in East Orange, NJ she was the daughter of the late Barclay MacKinnon and Helen Elizabeth Liss and stepdaughter of the late Leo Liss, DDS.
Janet was a graduate of Asbury Park High School Class of 1942, and attended Katherine Gibbs, Syracuse and UCLA. She moved to Cape Cod in 1962 and worked at Wimpys Restaurant.
In 1973, she became the first female Assistant Clerk Magistrate at Barnstable District Court until her retirement in 2001.
Janet enjoyed her freedom and independence in Florida. She loved all sports, particularly her beloved New York Yankees. Janet looked forward to attending her annual Red Sox – Yankee game with her daughter and spending her Birthdays on Martha’s Vineyard.
She is survived by her daughter Beth DeWees Piknick (Walter) of Centerville, and their children W. Joseph Piknick III of Lynn, MA and Thomas E. Piknick (Kimberlee) of Hyannis and their children, Dylan Michael and Amanda Elizabeth, and her son Douglas Rischmann (Kathie Smith) of Darien, CT, and their children Kasey, Owen, Aiden and Liam, Janet was the sister of the late Helen Elizabeth Griffin and Douglas MacKinnon. In 1952, she was predeceased by a newborn son, John Howell DeWees, Jr.
A public graveside service will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, July 12th in Mosswood Cemetery, Putnam Ave., Cotuit.
