Jayme “Jim” Moniz, 89, of East Falmouth, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2020, surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness.
Jim started his own concrete business, Falmouth Ready Mix, and in 1991 he decided it was time to retire. During retirement, he enjoyed spending the winters in Venice, Florida with his wife Barbara. He enjoyed Sundays watching golf tournaments and NASCAR. He was a real car buff, owning over 50+ cars during his lifetime. During the summers you could find Jim in his beloved garage soaking up the heat while making a puzzle or reading the newspaper. He could always find something to do in his yard, whether it was planting new trees or making sure the lawn was perfectly manicured. Jayme was a perfectionist and took pride in everything that he did. He will be profoundly missed.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, Theophilus Moniz and Mary (Silvia), a brother Robert Moniz and his sister Sylvia (Moniz) Sylvia. Jim is survived by his wife of 40 years, Barbara J. Moniz of E. Falmouth; brother Theophilus “Red” Moniz, Jr. of E. Falmouth; children: Jeffrey M. Moniz, Teri A. Sweeney and her spouse, Tracy L. Moniz and Catherine M. Zylinski and her spouse, all of E. Falmouth; grandchildren: Malcom D. Sweeney and his spouse of Quincy, Ashley E. DeMello and her spouse of E. Falmouth, Roscoe J. Sweeney of Stoughton, and MiKayla R. Sweeney of Arizona. He also leaves a great-granddaughter, Hayden M. DeMello, whom he cherished and many extended family members.
Visiting hours will be held from 5-7pm on Wednesday, Jan. 15th at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Falmouth. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am on Thursday, Jan. 16th at St. Anthony’s Church, 167 E. Falmouth Highway (Rt. 28), E. Falmouth, followed by burial in St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
