Jean Carleton Skaff of Falmouth, 72, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 28, after a year-long period of failing health. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Joseph Skaff, who was by her side to the end.
A long-time employee of Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Massachusetts, she also had worked as a secretary, at Stonehill College in Easton and, after retirement, in real estate on Cape Cod. Throughout their marriage, she and Joseph travelled extensively, visiting countries in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. She and Joseph especially enjoyed cooking and entertaining for their wide circle of friends and relatives. Her home was filled with art and objects collected from around the world, an extensive collection of cookbooks and kitchenware suitable for a wide range of cuisines, and a virtual nursery of plants and herbs.
A native of Brockton and a 1963 graduate of Cardinal Spellman High School, she was the daughter of the late Robert H. and Eileen M. (Sullivan) Carleton. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her brother, Kevin Carleton and his wife Patricia of Scituate; her niece, Julia Sullivan of Scituate, her husband and their three children; and a nephew, Matthew Carleton, of San Diego. She also leaves many cousins with whom she remained close throughout life, especially Kathleen Stuart Heino of Mashpee and John Stuart of Yarmouth Port, who grew up in the same Brockton triple-decker, and their spouses, Joanne and Robert Stork of Mashpee, and also the many members of the extended Skaff family.
Visiting hours will be Monday, December 4, 2017 at the Chapman Cole and Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main Street (Route 28) in Falmouth from 11AM until 1 PM, followed by a funeral service in the funeral home at 1 PM. Interment to follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
To remember Jean in a special way, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 473 South Street West, Suite 3, Raynham, MA, 02767.
