Joan Cullinan

Joan Cullinan, beloved wife of the late Joseph Cullinan, died on October 28, 2018 following a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late Patrick and Helen (Lorden) Lyons and was born in Haverhill, Ma on February 8, 1923. She was educated at St. James Grammar and High Schools where she was class valedictorian and then went off to Regis College. Her business career began with New England Telephone in Haverhill. She progressed in the company working at various positions throughout New England for over 31 years. While in Boston, she met and married Joe and became the first female to head a field district which covered all of the North Shore where she remained until her retirement. Joe and Joan made their home in Melrose. Upon their retirement, they moved to Cape Cod and enjoyed their home in Centerville. They spent many winters in Florida. Some years after Joe's death, Joan moved to Hyannis. Joan was the sister of the late Raymond P. Lyons, of Rockland. Surviving Joan are four step-children, Richard Cullinan of Topsfield, MA; Anne Maura, Margie Soroka, and Susannne Cullinan, of Conway NH. She leaves behind five grandchildren, Jessica Soroka of Hot Springs, AK; Brian Cullinan of Somerville, MA; David Soroka of Portland, ME; Hanna Woodward of Portland, OR; and Sam Woodward of North Conway, NH. In addition, she leaves behind her nephew and nieces, Patrick Lyons of Rockland, MA; Maureen Lyons Vernon of Mansfield, MA and Nancy Lyons Sharpe of Duxbury, MA. and her longtime friend and care taker, Virginia Hooper. Joan was an avid Patriots fan and was known to put on her Brady shirt and watch every game. She was a devout catholic and attended St. Francis Xavier Parish in Hyannis. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 2 at 9:00 am at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville, followed by burial at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, also in Centerville. The family thanks the staff at Cape Cod Hospital for their outstanding care in this last brief illness. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan's memory may be made to the Cape Cod Hospital Foundation, CCHC Foundation, P.O. Box 370, Hyannis, MA 02601
