Joan F. Tansey

Joan F. Tansey, 77, of East Falmouth passed away on Monday, February 12, 2018.  She was the wife of the late William J. Tansey. Born in Worcester to Francis and Frances (Lawler) Furfey.

Joan was a graduate of St. Peters High School and graduated from Worcester State University with her Master’s degree in English. She was an English teacher at Falmouth High School for 34 years, retiring in 2000. She was the former President of Falmouth Teachers Association and a former town meeting member. After retiring, Joan spent many years working as a beach attendant at Acapesket Beach in Falmouth. She also enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles, reading, traveling and especially spending time with her family and friends.

She was predeceased by her longtime companion, Peter Jardim of East Falmouth. She leaves her beloved daughter and best friend, Marylee Tansey of East Falmouth, brother Leo Furfey and his wife Therese of West Falmouth, her godson and nephew John Furfey and his wife Erin of North Falmouth, and her niece Susan Shaw and her husband Nicholas of Carlisle; and her four great nephews, Leo and Eamon Furfey of North Falmouth and William and Kai Shaw of Carlisle.

A visitation will be held from 9-10:30am on Friday, February 16 at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Falmouth. A funeral Mass will follow at 11am at St. Patrick Church, 511 Main Street, Falmouth.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Falmouth Service Center, PO Box 208, Falmouth MA  02541.
