John D. Murphy

John Daniel Murphy passed away peacefully at the Pat Roche Hospice Home in Hingham, on November 18, 2019. John was the son of the late Helen (O’Connell) and Daniel Murphy.

He grew up in Braintree with two brothers and two sisters.  John spent summers on the Cape and learned to sail on the Bass River.  As a child, John loved to race his Beetle Cat.  He loved sailing and the ocean throughout his life.  John boarded at Saint John’s Prep and graduated from Providence College and Portia Law School.  He was proud that two of his daughters, a son-in-law, and a granddaughter followed his example and attended Providence College.  John spent his career in residential and commercial real estate development on the South Shore.

John was married to Jeanne (Ryan) for 33 years and together they made their home in Falmouth and Estero, Florida.  John loved golf and played often at Ballymeade in Falmouth and Grandezza in Estero.  John was an avid skier and skied often at Attitash, where he had a home for several years.  His four daughters have fond memories of John teaching all four of them to ski at the same time.

John was a loving father to Lauren Tobin (David), Susan Gummow (Skip), Karen Falcone (Andy), and Katie Trecker (Chris), and a devoted stepfather to Kathy, Tommy, and Kim Ryan.  John was happiest when spending time with his eleven grandchildren, Riley, Danny, Brian, Kara, Meg, Jay, Aileen, Elizabeth, Anna, Lauren, and Caitlin.  His grandchildren adored their “Peepa.”  John was formerly married to Peggy Tis.  He also leaves behind his sister Judy O’Malley (Mike), and brothers Paul (Marylou) and Phil (Mary Jane), as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.  He was predeceased by his sister Helen Ann Maichle (Dick).
