John F. Dimitro, Jr.

John F. Dimitro Jr., 85, of Cataumet, passed away peacefully at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center on December 26, 2019. He was the beloved husband of Marie A. Dimitro and son of the late John and Frances Dimitro.

Born in Somerville, John graduated from Rindge Technical School in Cambridge. He attended United States Navy Submarine school at NAVSUBASE New London. He served aboard USS Entemedor SS 340 and in the Naval Reserve.

He worked as a Draftsman and Assistant District Engineer rising to Mid Atlantic District Engineer for the Bethlehem Steel Corporation. Projects included: Newport Bridge - Newport Rl, Washington DC Metro Subway, and Nuclear Power Plant Construction. He actively supported U S Naval Academy Athletics, particularly Navy Juniors Swimming. He was a member of the Naval Academy Officers and Faculty Club.

An avid hunter and outdoorsman, John was inducted into the Biggest Bucks in Maine Club for landing a trophy white tail deer. Over the years he was a member of: Falmouth Rod and Gun Club, Monument Beach Sportsman Club, Falmouth Skeet Club and Sagamore Rifle Club. He enjoyed surf fishing along the Cape Cod Canal. While living in Maryland, John participated in sailboat racing.

In addition to his loving wife Marie of 61 years, John is survived by his son Gregory J. Dimitro of Connecticut, his sisters Marilyn Deluca and Catherine V. Hannum and many nieces and nephews. A loving husband, father, and brother, he will be dearly missed by all who loved him.

A visitation will be held at the Chapman Cole and Gleason Funeral Home 74 Algonquin Ave. (Rte 151) Mashpee, on Friday January 3, 2020 from 10:00am to 11:30am. A funeral mass will follow in Christ the King Church, 3 Job’s Fishing Rd., Mashpee at 12:00pm. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:30pm.
