John J. Cahalane

John J. Cahalane, 72, of Mashpee, died June 8, 2019. He was the husband of the late Christine (Dulchinos) Cahalane.
He was born and raised in the Boston area. In 1972, John moved to Mashpee with his wife, where they opened a restaurant/nightclub on Route 151 called “The Farm.” For nearly 20 years, he was President of Diversified Resorts, and he owned and operated Marketing Services for 16 years. The voters of Mashpee elected him to the Board of Selectmen seven times - a position he held for 20 years, until the time of his death. He served as Chairman of the Board multiple times and was recently proclaimed “Dean of the Mashpee Board of Selectmen.” He also served as a Sewer Commissioner, Mashpee Housing Authority member, Human Services Committee member, Chairman of the Mashpee Environmental Oversight Committee, Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe liaison, Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority Advisory Board member, and a member of the original Cape Cod Special Olympics Committee. He was a Life Member of the BPO Elks and a member to the Mashpee Men’s Club. He served with the 102nd Air National Guard. In 2008, he received the Municipal Distinguished Service Award from the Mashpee Chamber of Commerce. He was considered a monumental community leader for his dedication to Mashpee and its people.
He is survived by his significant other, Karen Fisher; aunt, Peg Duddy; niece, Jean Duddy; and his beloved dog, Molly. He is also survived by several other nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 74 Algonquin Avenue (off Route 151) in Mashpee. A funeral service in the funeral home will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 14th followed by burial at Great Woods Cemetery in Mashpee.
