John R. “Jack” Nelson

John R. “Jack” Nelson, 88, of Wareham, died January 7, 2017 in the Soldier’s Home, Holyoke. He was the husband of the late Ruth I. (Shaw) Nelson who died in 2003. He was the son of the late George and Esther (Stenberg) Nelson.

He was born in Boston and lived in Braintree and Wareham for many years. He graduated from Braintree High School and the Franklin Institute in Boston. 

Mr. Nelson served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force from 1949 to 1952.

Mr. Nelson owned and operated Franconia Fuel Company in Wareham for many years before retiring.

He enjoyed skiing, sailing, and boating and making model airplanes. He held a pilot’s license and enjoyed flying out of Plymouth Airport.

Survivors include his daughter, Judith G. Davis of West Barnstable; 3 grandchildren, Greg Spillane of Las Vegas, NV, Nathaniel Davis and his wife Donna of Bourne Point, Wareham, and Ria Hill of West Barnstable; 2 great grandchildren, Bailey and Keegan Spillane of CA. He was the brother of the late George Nelson.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Visiting hours have been omitted.

Arrangements are by the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham, MA.
