Joseph A. Fernandes, Sr.

Joseph A. Fernandes, Sr., 86, of Wareham, died Sept. 5, 2017 at Tobey Hospital, Wareham. He was the son of the late Antone and Mary (Gonsalves) Fernandes.

He was born in Danvers and lived in Wareham most of his life.

Mr. Fernandes worked as a laborer for the Construction & Laborers Union, Local 721 in Brockton. He was also a Wareham Firefighter serving on the department since age 16 and he also maintained the athletic fields for the Wareham School Department.

He enjoyed landscaping, taking care of his lawn and fishing. He was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church and had served as an Altar Boy.

Survivors include his friend, Mary McCoy of Wareham; 2 sons, Joseph A. Fernandes, Jr. of Dartmouth and Christian Fernandes of Wareham; 2 daughters, Robyn Fernandes of Los Angeles, CA and Stacey Fernandes of Wareham; 3 brothers, Edmund Pinho, Antone Fernandes and John Pinho all of Falmouth; 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren. He was the husband of the late Anne M. (Burgo) Fernandes.

Visiting hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 11, 2017.

His funeral will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017 from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 82 High St., Wareham.

Burial will be private.
