MARSTONS MILLS - Joseph Alfred Savio, 93, passed away May 2, 2018 at his home in Marstons Mills with his family by his side. Born on October 23, 1924 in Methuen, Joseph was the son of immigrant parents Laboria (Lena Solomi) Savio and Joseph Alfred Savio originally from Villa Rosa, Sicily. He grew up in Medford with two brothers and two sisters.
Joseph was a member of the Millwrights union local 1121 and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. During his lifetime he used his carpentry expertise to build a number of homes, some of which he lived in with his family, including ones in New Jersey, Hanson, Duxbury and Westport. Always hardworking and generous, Joseph continued to help others after his retirement.
He also liked to have fun. Joseph enjoyed fishing and made many friends during his years of boating in Marshfield and Westport. He and his beloved wife of 69 years, Beatrice, traveled around the Cape and Islands on their boats.
Joseph was a doting grandfather and was known by his loving grandchildren as "Papa." He loved the ocean and loved his family even more. Joseph was a sweet and caring man with a wonderful laugh. He will be greatly missed.
Joseph is survived by his wife Beatrice; children Joseph Savio Jr. of Yarmouth and Susan Philbin (Savio) and her husband Tom of Westwood; grandchildren Jason, Corey, Jamie and Meaghan.
He also leaves behind sister-in-law Elvira Mealy of Norwood; sister-in-law France Kelly of Murietta, CA; sister-in-law Jean Mealy of Clearwater, FL; sister-in-law Mary Lou Savio of Tanawanda, NY; and many nieces and nephews.
Joseph is pre-deceased by his brothers Charles Savio of Medford and Guy Savio of Tanawanda, NY; sister Jenny (Savio) Costanzo and brother-in-law Sam Costanzo of Bronx, NY and Miami, FL; sister Josephine (Savio) Casto of Medford; brother-in-law Edward Mealy of Norwood; and brother-in-law Charles Mealy of Clearwater, FL.
Visiting hours will be from 10:00-11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 8th in the John Lawrence funeral home, 3778 Falmouth Rd. Marstons Mills, MA. A funeral mass will follow at 11:30 AM in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 76 Wianno Ave. Osterville. Burial will follow in Mosswood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
