Joseph E. Vetrano, Sr

Joseph E. Vetrano, Sr. passed away on October 31, 2020 at home after a long illness, surrounded by the love of his family.  Joe leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Mary Ann (Apruzzese) Vetrano, his 4 children -  Karen and her spouse Karen Magda; Deborah and her spouse George Roberts; Joseph Jr. and his spouse, Mimi; and Kristina and her spouse Richard Pretorius, along with two granddaughters and two step-grandsons, and their devoted Irish Setter, Hattie.  He also leaves a large, loving extended family.

After spending many years of family vacations on the Cape, Joe and Mary Ann fulfilled their dream of retiring here in 1999.  They spent 19 happy years in Brewster and moved to Cotuit to be closer to their daughter in 2018.  Joe loved clamming on the flats and sunset walks on the beach holding hands with Mary Ann. A quiet man with a dry sense of humor, he always saw the good in people and got along with everyone.  Joe was a die-hard Red Sox and Patriots fan.  An avid reader, he read and re-read Lonesome Dove until the book literally fell apart!  A history buff, he loved the History Channel and National Geographic but was also addicted to modern crime dramas.  Joe loved food, especially pasta with lots of parmesan and Mary Ann’s apple pie!

It is impossible to sum up the life of a husband, father and Poppa in a couple of paragraphs.  To those that knew and loved him, he was this and so much more.  Joe, we will love you and miss you forever.

The family wishes to extend its heart-felt gratitude to Hospice and the loving care they provided to Joe in his last days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Visiting Nurse Association of Cape Cod Hospice, 255 Independence Dr. Hyannis, MA 02601.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, November 6th at Christ the King Church, 5 Job’s Fishing Road, Mashpee, MA.  Masks and social distancing will be observed in accordance with state guidelines.  Burial will be private and at the discretion of the family.  For those friends and family that are unable to travel, please go to https://christthekingparish.com/live-streaming/ to livestream the Mass.
