Joseph J. Hurley

1932 ∼ 2019

Joseph Hurley of Centerville, MA, formerly of Dorchester, Milton and Needham, MA, passed away on August 15, 2019 at the age of 87.

He was the son of the late Joseph and Virginia Hurley. Joseph was the beloved husband of the late Madeline (McLaughlin) Hurley for 58 years. Devoted and proud father of Patrice of North Weymouth and Centerville, MA, Elizabeth Anne of Bedford and Chatham, MA, Joseph (Lisa) of Madison, CT and Stephen (Danielle) of North Carolina and grandfather of Joseph, Emily, Andrew, Arthur and Charles. He was the loving brother of James R. of Weymouth, MA and J. Thomas of Milton, MA.

Joe was a United States Navy veteran having served in the Korean War. After his service, he attended Boston College and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. He also earned a Master of Science in Taxation from Bentley College.

Joe was a CPA and began his career at Arthur Anderson. Much of his career was in the construction industry as Vice President and controller of several companies which led to his working on a variety of interesting construction projects. In semi-retirement he worked as a tax consultant and preparer.

An avid golfer, Joe was a past member of the Needham Golf Club and the Olde Barnstable Golf Club.  He was an active Parishioner at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Osterville, MA.

Through his work and hobbies Joe formed many close friendships. He delighted in entertaining his family and friends at his home.

Joe was a caring, charming, generous and thoughtful person. He always had “a few kind words” for everyone. Joe brightened the lives of all who were lucky enough to meet him. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered. We are all better people for knowing him.

A Funeral Mass and burial will be private.
