Joseph J. Rezendes, 86, of West Bridgewater, passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 26, 2019. He was the loving husband of the late Josephine P. (Holbrook) Rezendes who passed away almost one day shy of a year ago (September 27, 2018). Born on January 27, 1933, Joseph was the son of the late Joseph and Rose (Torres) Rezendes. He was born, raised, and educated in West Bridgewater. Joe is a Polio survivor and spent a lot of time in the hospital as a child. At the age of 18 Joe married Josie, the love of his life. They spent the next 67 years enjoying live together.

He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great children. Joe and Josie enjoyed bird watching, camping, hiking, fishing, canoeing, white water rafting, or anything that involved being outdoors. He was never one to sit around.  He was always busy building something – outdoor furniture, wooden ducks, animals, birdhouses, one had 19 rooms.  He was adventurous and wanted to try everything at least once. Joe’s last and final trip was to Portugal (Azores) at the age of 86. He was able to see where his parents came from. It was the last thing on his bucket list.  His pride and joy was his yard.  He was the person everyone would want to live next to. He liked baking bread and cooking breakfast.  His neighbors called him Smokey Joe because he enjoyed baking potatoes in his outside fire pit and delivering them to his neighbors.  His yard was admired by many, with birdhouses, wooden animal figures, and a meticulous lawn that he mowed twice a week. He was known for throwing some good parties and playing jokes on his friends back in the day.

Joseph is survived by his children, Rick Rezendes and his wife Shirley, Doreen DelMonaco and her husband Giovanni, Cheryl Lordan and her late husband Tom and Karen Freitas and her husband Rick; his grandchildren, Domenica, Shannon, Fran Ruberto and his wife Stacia, Vin, Joe, late T.C., Ricky Freitas and his fiancé Gina Carriuolo, Joshua Freitas and his husband  Peter, Daniela Lundin and her husband Shawn, Dina Burke and her husband Matt and Tania Kelly and her husband Jake; his great-grandchildren, Briana, Cheyenne, Christin, Nick, Olivia, Charlotte, Danny, Ryan, John, Ben, Bradley, Roman, and JoJo. Anthony, Olivia, Sophia, and Skyler; his great-great-grandchildren, Devan, and James.
