Katherine (Kay) Hooghkerk Jalet died on September 8, 2018. She was 94 years old. Katherine is survived by her three children, James G. Jalet III and his wife LuAnn of Newport Beach, CA; Katherine (Kathy)Agansky of Clifton Park, NY; Kim Jalet and her husband, Vito LaBella of Brooklyn, NY; her six grandchildren, Jenna Paseka (husband Tim) of Costa Mesa, CA; Jason Agansky (wife Heather) of Clifton Park; Kelly Cooper (husband Curt) of Lehighton, PA; Evan, Dylan and Morgan LaBella of Brooklyn, NY and her two great-grandchildren, Jack Paseka of Costa Mesa, CA and Jordan Agansky of Clifton Park, NY. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Gordon Jalet Jr. of Albany, NY, her sister, Elizabeth Hooghkerk of Albany, NY, her parents Silas and Elizabeth Hooghkerk of Albany, NY and her son in law, Jack Agansky of Clifton Park, NY.
Katherine was born on August 11, 1924 in Albany, NY. She was a beautiful woman who enjoyed riding horses and roller skating in her youth. She sang professionally with local bands in Albany in the forties and sang throughout her life right up to her 94th birthday.
In her early twenties, she met a young soldier named Gordon whom she married upon his return from WWII. They lived in Atlanta, GA for a brief time but returned to Albany prior to the birth of their first child, Jim, in 1945. They raised their three children in Albany alongside the many family pets including several cats and countless German Shepherds.
Kay graduated from Albany Business College and worked for the NYS Thruway for many years. She later worked at the Twin Towers in Albany after being a legislative assistant to NY state assemblyman and senators for several years. After retirement, she spent winters in Naples, Florida and summers in Cape Cod, MA where she will be buried next to her husband. She and Gordon had a wonderful life filled with friends and family and will be missed by all.
Funeral service at Morris, O’Connor & Blute Funeral Home, 678 Main St. Harwich Center, MA on Tuesday, September 11th at 9 am. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, West Harwich.
