Kathleen McGarry-Gillis (nee Dannemann), passed away on October 31, 2017 at the Tippett Home in Needham, MA.
She was born on October 8, 1943 in Towanda, PA, a daughter of the late Charles and Janice (Meredith) Dannemann. Kathy grew up in Towanda, PA, where she graduated from Towanda High School. She then attended Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia. Kathy had a successful career in advertising sales for many years. Until recent years, she enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Woods Hole Golf Club at the time of her death.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 29 years, Donald A. Gillis, who died in 2008; her step-daughter Peggy Guillet, and her sister-in-law Christine Dannemann.
She is survived by her beloved son Bernard G. McGarry III of Falmouth, and step-children Donna and her husband Philip Atwood, Richard, DMD, and his wife Toni-Jane Gillis, Gary and his wife Lisa Gillis, and Nancy and her husband Derek Sanderson, all of Needham, MA, and Peggy’s husband Ned Guillet. Kathy is also survived by twelve step-grandchildren: Michael, Christopher, and Brendan Atwood, Megan Guillet, Kathryn Guillet Jackel, Maura Guillet Thomas, Richard Gillis, Jr., Nancy Gillis Houston, Lauren Gillis, Audrey Gillis, Michael Sanderson, and Ryan Sanderson. In addition she leaves 8 step great grandchildren: Jack, Isabel, William, Nora and Teddy Atwood, Greta Thomas, and Colin and Sawyer Gillis.
She is survived by her sister Pamela Martin and her late husband Robert of Lewes, Delaware, brother Charles Dannemann and his wife Linda of New Bern, North Carolina, brother Edward Dannemann of Seattle, Washington and her nieces and nephews Robert Martin II, Janice Martin-Hebert, Jill Dannemann, Chad Dannemann, Matthew Dannemann, and Christopher Dannemann and their children. Kathy also leaves behind her beloved cousin Frankie Straw of Naples, FL.
As per Kathy’s request, no services will be held.
Kathy’s family is very grateful for the wonderful care that Kathy received at the Stanley Tippett Home.
