Kelly Alexis (Guyton),” Alex ” Wathier, age 60,of East Falmouth, Massachusetts, formerly of Hawaii, departed this life suddenly and unexpectedly, without suffering, at her home on February 12, 2021.
She was born September 30th, 1960 in Oakland, California, the daughter of the late Jimmie Joseph and Vera Jean Guyton. A lifelong Raiders fan, some of her fondest childhood memories were attending Raiders practices while visiting and meeting the players with her father. Alex's father was career military and she spent many of her formative years between Hawaii and the Philippines.
After graduating high school in Hawaii, Alex, ever the adventurer, spent time living in Atlanta and traveling the world. This included many escapades touring and living in Europe for over a year. Through her young adult years, Alexis tried her hand at many diverse occupations including hairdresser, celebrity photographer, and police officer. Although she often needed some gentle prompting, she would on occasion captivate her husband and children with some hair-raising stories of her world travels and rubbing elbows with the stars.
Alexis did find her true calling and became a social worker, earning her Masters of Social Work from The University of Hawaii, and began her career working for the military in Hawaii and helping our active duty members, veterans, and their families, all while raising her oldest daughter, Jourdan. While working at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii, Alex met Christopher while he was completing his medical internship with the Army and after a true whirlwind romance, they were married in Hawaii. Soon after, she found herself on the move as is the way of military life. Through stops at White Sands Missile Range, NM, Westlake, Ohio, and Oklahoma City, OK, she gave birth to her son Nicholas, and daughter Samantha Grace. After her husband's military service was complete, the family settled in Falmouth, MA on Cape Cod. There Alexis quickly became active in the church touching many lives as a Sunday school teacher.
She leaves in loving memory her husband of 22 years Dr. Christopher L. Wathier and her 3 children, Jourdan, age 32, of Brooklyn, NY; Nicholas, age 18 and Samantha Grace age 15 both residing in Falmouth, MA. She was predeceased by her father, Jimmie Joseph Guyton, mother, Vera Jean Guyton, 2 older sisters, Karen Guyton and Kimberley Guyton and 2 older brothers, Jimmie Guyton Jr., and Michael Guyton
Alex departed this life much too soon and will be missed dearly by the many souls that she deeply touched. She was known for her loving and giving spirit, her ability to quickly form loving bonds with those she met, her infectious laugh and her tremendous and caring hugs. Boy, could she hug! She had a deep and abiding love for Jesus and she never met a stranger, for she met everyone with open arms.
