Leona Alice Copeland Lyon (Lee), died on June 4, 2017 at the age of 89. Born on March 26, 1928, in Rockland, MA, she moved to East Bridgewater with her family at the start of her freshman year in high school. She attended East Bridgewater High School and Cathleen Dell College. She married her adoring husband, Harold Sidney Lyon on October 22, 1966, and they settled in East Bridgewater.
Lee was a career woman ahead of her time. She started her career in California, but returned home to East Bridgewater after 2 years, and commuted to Boston for over 40 years, working at United Airlines and Bay Banks. She loved the responsibility and freedom that came from a career, and enjoyed her professional commitments because she never grew tired of learning new things.
Sid and Lee loved spending time with and family and friends at their cottage on Deer Isle, ME, which was built by Sid's father in the early 1930's. Thanks to her years of service at United Airlines, they traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe; Hawaii and California were their favorite places to visit.
Lee will be remembered for her kindness and warmth, her love for and dedication to her friends and family, and her easy-going, accepting ways. She was a content person who appreciated all of the gifts life gave her and went out of her way to make the people around her happy.
Lee was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Sid, by six weeks. Lee leaves her 100-year-old sister, Gladys Copeland; her nieces and nephew, Sandra Goode, Cheryl Copeland-Lewis, Anne Manson, Elizabeth Manson, and James Manson; her devoted and loving caregiver, Angela Parker; lifelong friends, John and Ada Weed; and many dear friends in East Bridgewater.
Friends and family are invited to a funeral home service at the Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 35 Spring St, East Bridgewater, on Friday, June 9. Visitation will be held at 10AM followed by a service at 11AM, followed by a burial at Pine Hill Cemetery in West Bridgewater.
