Linda Darryl (Gothorpe) Greene

WEST YARMOUTH - Linda Darryl (Gothorpe) Greene, 77, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Liberty Commons Skilled Nursing Facility in Chatham from complications of Alzheimer’s dementia. She was the daughter of the late William and Dorothy Gothorpe of Acton, MA and the beloved wife of Ronald Greene for 43 years. 

 

Linda was born February 19, 1940 in Newton, MA and grew up in Acton. She graduated from Acton High School in 1957 with the last class from that school before it became a regional school system. She earned an Associate Degree from Chandler Secretarial School in Boston. She worked as an administrator at Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford and at RCA Aerospace in Burlington as a Department Secretary, where she met Ron.  They were married in 1974. Before moving to California with Ron, Linda worked as a recruiter at ERT in Bedford, and at Forsythe Real Estate in Acton and Maryellen Burns Real Estate as an office administrator. For years, Linda and Ron ran a successful cottage industry antique business


 

In California, where she spent 25 years, Linda worked as an office admin at McDonnell Douglas, a bank teller, sales clerk, and as office manager for Holiday Inn and a mortgage company.


 

When not working, she was heavily involved in Newcomers Organizations where she held many offices, including: newsletter editor in Acton;  events coordinator, newsletter editor, Treasurer, Vice President and President in Huntington Beach, CA; and greeter, membership co-chairperson (with Ron), and Treasurer of the Dennis-Yarmouth Newcomers.   Linda also was involved in the women’s auxiliary of Ron’s Barbershop choruses as President of both the Echoes of Concord, MA and the Harmony Sweethearts in Santa Fe Springs, CA.


 

Linda enjoyed reading, and would write elaborate book reports for her book groups. She volunteered at the South Yarmouth Library, enjoyed bridge, cribbage, dancing to ‘40’s and 50’s music, “chick flicks” with Ron and friends, travelling, exploring new places, cruising, her step-grandchildren, whom she loved as her own, and, of course, the Red Sox. She made friends easily, and was kind-hearted.


 

She is survived by her brother Bill Gothorpe and wife Mary Jo of Grantham, NH and Naples, FL; nephews Jonathan Gothorpe and wife Amy of Harvard, MA, and Chris Gothorpe and wife Trish of Pawtucket, RI, two great-nephews Connor and William Gothorpe of Harvard; two step-daughters, Jennifer Barrett and husband Chris of Tacoma, WA and Jill Greene of Everett, WA, and four step-grandchildren Emily and Allison Barrett of Tacoma, WA and Abby and Noah Rivera-Greene of Everett, WA.

 

Visitation will be held on February 5, 2018 from 4 - 7 PM at Morris, O’Connor & Blute Funeral Home, 58 Long Pond Drive, South Yarmouth, MA 02664.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on February 6, 2018, at 10 AM at St. Pius X Church, 9 Barbara St., South Yarmouth, MA 02664, followed by a Celebration of Life.  Burial will be private.
