Linda Mansfield Pointer

Linda Mansfield Pointer of East Falmouth, MA passed away on May 28, comforted by the guitar music played by her loving husband, Ron Pointer. She was 73 and died peacefully but unexpectedly of cancer.

Locally, Linda was an avid watercolor painter and supporter of the Falmouth Artists Guild. She derived great pleasure from her days with The Monday Morning Painters and the friendships shared capturing puffy clouds and shorelines along the bays and beaches of Falmouth-as well as the woodwork of historic homes and boats. She helped write grant proposals for the new Gifford Street home of the Guild and subsequent expansion efforts. She also served as a member of the Guild board as treasurer, and assisted in marketing efforts and modernizing systems.

Born in Wellesley MA, Linda attended the public schools and formed strong friendships with members of the Troop 1 Girl Scout group who raised money to travel abroad-'over the sea in '63'. She graduated from Pembroke College in Providence, RI and received a M.A. degree in Economics from Brown University. There followed many years working as part of a team with the Department of Energy (formerly FEA) during the years of gas rationing and smoke stack retrofitting, as well as an economist at McKinsey & Company -travelling extensively to serve clients and address matters of oil and gas supply models.

Linda met Ron in Lawton, Oklahoma, where they married and enjoyed the beauty of the plains, big sky, and the Wichita Wildlife Refuge. Both pursued their work, but also their artwork (Ron creating handcrafted steel sculptures of birds, fish, and fauna using an anvil passed down from ancestors). After leaving Oklahoma in 2004 and moving to East Falmouth, closer to Linda's family members and the beauty of the coast, they also pursued a love of sailing for a time with a boat moored at Fiddlers Cove.

In addition to her husband Ron and dog Meg, Linda leaves a brother Douglas Mansfield and his wife Annick of Wellesley, MA, sister Shirley Mansfield Debartolo and her husband Ramaswamy Sridharan of Bedford, MA, and beloved extended Mansfield and Debartolo and Sridharan family members: Greg, Lena, Maya, and Eric Mansfield of W. Hartford, Conn; Rick Mansfield and Nicole Mansfield Wright of Boulder, CO; David, Mike and Kate Debartolo of Washington, DC; Vilas Sridharan and P.K. Newby of Brookline, MA; and Vikram Sridharan and Karina Godoy of Whittier, CA.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
