Lorraine L. DeSimone

Lorraine DeSimone passed away peacefully at the McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich, MA on Sunday, April 9, 2017 held by her three loving daughters and surrounded, in person and virtually, by a loving family after a long and courageous battle with heart and lung disease.  She was 84.

Lorraine was born on October 10, 1932, and raised in Winthrop, MA, the daughter of the late Michael and Angelina (Guarnera) DeSimone.   Her family moved from Winthrop to Saugus and then to West Peabody, where she made her home and raised her children.

Lorraine loved to dance in her youth and it was at a dance where she met her first husband Paul N. LaVoie.   Their marriage produced four children to whom Lorraine was much devoted.  Her career was varied and interesting, from her work as a bookkeeper for several companies, to her successful efforts as an entrepreneur and manager for Tupperware, to her detailed work as a video editor.  Lorraine’s work ethic and energy were always with her. She worked hard to support her children and stressed the importance of education. She was especially proud that they all attended college.

Later in life, Lorraine met Joseph Figueiredo, to whom she was married for more than 20 years. They lived and traveled together, making their home in Massachusetts, Florida, and California, before settling in Mashpee in 2013 to be near family.  Lorraine cherished her time with family and friends and enjoyed her traditional Italian holiday celebrations, playing bridge and other card games, shopping and visiting flea markets to hunt for gadgets, and making puzzles with a wide array of friends old and new.

Lorraine leaves behind four children and nine grandchildren:  Donna Buckley and her husband Troy Clarkson of Falmouth, MA and their children Neil Buckley and his fiancé Lauren Jefferies, and Sydney and Jenna Clarkson; Paul DeSimone and his wife Stephanie of Temecula, CA and their daughter Alexandria; Linda Smith of Falmouth, MA and her children Dustin and Ariana Smith; Renee Lucente and her husband Michael of Westford, MA and their children Nicole, Marissa and Michael.  In addition, she leaves behind her former husband Paul N. LaVoie, of N. Andover, MA; her sister Jeanette Lucas of Freedom, NH;  and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.   She was predeceased by her husband Joseph Figueiredo and her sister Barbara Bartlett of Marshfield, MA and New Hampshire.

Visiting hours will be held from 4-8 PM on Monday, April 17 at the Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Falmouth.  A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM on Tuesday, April 18, at Christ the King Church, 3 Job's Fishing Road, Mashpee.  Family and friends may gather for procession from 9:15-10:15 AM at the funeral home on Tuesday morning.  Burial will follow the Mass at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Gifford Street, Falmouth.

Throughout her illness, Lorraine received excellent care from the caregivers at Falmouth Hospital, Royal Megansett Nursing Home and Atria Woodbriar.  She fearlessly and faithfully chose to spend her final days at the McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich, where she received loving and compassionate care.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested in Lorraine’s name.
