M. Catherine O’Conor

M. Catherine O’Conor, 76, a Falmouth resident for over 16 years, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, with her children by her side. She was born February 24, 1940, in Milwaukee, Wis., to the late Daniel J. and Catherine E. (Burke) O’Conor.
Catherine was an accomplished scholar, educator and therapist. She received her Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1966 and a Master of Education from Antioch University in 1980. Specializing in the treatment of addiction, Catherine had a successful private practice as a therapist in Doylestown, Pa., for nearly 20 years. She was a member of the faculty at Bucks County Community College in Newtown, Pa., for 20 years, where she was also the coordinator for the social services program. She continued to teach in their online program after her relocation to Cape Cod in 2000.
Motivated by her passion for education, Catherine joined the Society of the Sacred Heart in her early 20s before leaving to marry and have children. Devoted to the church throughout her life, as a layperson she later became one of the first associates of the Society. Catherine was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church and a member of the Council of Catholic Women. She was active with the Falmouth Democratic Town Committee and was Secretary of the Board of Directors of Dillingham Place, where she resided for the past 8 years. Catherine was a loving, generous person with amazing depths of empathy and compassion. She had a lively spirit and a beautiful laugh. Family, faith and service were everything to her.
Catherine is survived by her children Casey Cook and wife Shauna Swartz of Philadelphia, Pa., Trish (Cook) Barrigan and husband Ian of London, England, and Chip Cook of Los Angeles, Calif.; her grandchildren Jack and Grace Catherine Barrigan of London, England; siblings Patricia O’Conor of Osterville, Daniel O’Conor of Falmouth, and Thomas O’Conor and wife Marylyn Hoenemyer of Los Angeles, Calif.; and dozens of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held from 3-6 PM on Monday, Jan 9 at Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Falmouth. The eulogy will be at 10:45 AM on Tuesday, Jan 10 at St. Patrick Church, 511 Main Street, Falmouth, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 AM.
