Madeline E. Fernandes

Madeline E. Fernandes, 100, died peacefully on Dec. 27, 2017. Madeline was the loving daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine (Pires) Barros and wife of the late Julio Fernandes.  She was a graduate of Wareham High School, class of 1935. Thereafter, she moved to Boston and later in life relocated to San Diego from 1985 to 2004.Madeline was a seamstress for many years in Boston.  She loved to thrift shop, garden, crochet, exercise, travel, and do crosswords.

She was the loving mother of the late Barbara Fontes, Catherine Fernandes, and the late Joseph Fernandes. Proud “Nana” of Denise, Michelle, Angelina, and “Great-Nana” of Brittany, Nicolas, Jayson, Braylon, and Madeline.  Loving stepmother to Wilfred Fernandes, Wayne Fernandes, Maryann Hill and the late Judy Hilliard. After raising her own children, she became a 2nd mother for many years to Anthony, Mark, Denise(Gaines) and Deanna Ross.  Sister of Florence Miranda of Boston, and the late Mary P. Silva, Ella Timas, Virginia Stell, August Barros, Manuel Barros, and Edward Perry. Also, Aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are cordially invited to calling hours at the Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. Bridgewater on Fri. Jan. 5th from 4-7pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, Jan. 6th at Our Lady of Perpetual Health, 1545 Tremont St, Boston, MA 02120 at 10:00am. Burial will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Hope Hospice & Palliative Care of Rhode Island, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
