CENTERVILLE, Madeline R. (Allegra) Fucile, 99, loving wife of 73 years to the late Dominic Fucile, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on November 30, 2019.
The eldest of four siblings, Madeline was born on October 21, 1920 in Somerville, MA, to Antonio and Concetta (Cardulo) Allegra. Madeline’s fondest childhood memories were of helping her parents with the day-to-day chores of managing a small farm in Dedham. She played basketball and starred as Dotsie in her senior class performance of “Charm School” at the Dedham High School. After graduating in 1938 she worked in downtown Boston and would frequent the theatre, attending Italian opera with her father and enjoying the famous crooners of the time with her mother.
She loved the City of Boston and was soon introduced to the love of her life, Dominic. With a war brewing, Dom enlisted in the Navy and was stationed in Newport RI. Sunday afternoon drives, chaperoned by her future brother and sister-in-law, allowed their courtship to mature. They were married in Dedham in October, 1942. After the war, Madeline and Dom settled in Weymouth where they raised their family, met life-long friends, and spent their summers in Plymouth. They retired to Centerville in 1979. Known for her delicious Italian cooking, Madeline enjoyed life’s simple pleasures with her family and friends. She corresponded with distant relations using her impeccable penmanship and loved to travel. Active with Sacred Heart Parish in Weymouth and Our Lady of Victory Parish, in Centerville, Madeline was most admired for her kind and selfless spirit.
She is survived by her brother, John and Florence Allegra of Melbourne, FL, sister Connie and Will Lewis of St. Augustine, FL, and is lovingly remembered by her children: Robert T. and the late Eileen Fucile of Nashua NH; Donald S. Fucile and Barbara Gauley of Plymouth; Madeline V. Fucile of Wilmington, DE; Joseph J. and Pamala Fucile of Weymouth; and Paul D. Fucile of Waquoit. Her grandchildren are: Anthony J. and Breanna Fucile of Essex VT; Tamara L. Fucile and Todd Watterson of Washington, DC; Jarrod M. and Debra Fucile of Blackstone; Alyson Gauley of Hyde Park; Gina M. and Matthew Walton of Weymouth; Stephen J. and Jenn Fucile of Northboro, MA; Dominic S. Her great-grandchildren include: Lily and Robyn Fucile; Caroline, Bridget, and Ryan Watterson; Benjamin, Harrison, and Jolene Fucile; Liam and Emma Walton and Logan Fucile. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Among her very close friends were John and Marge Hopkins of Yarmouthport; Peter and Virginia Fortuna of Sandwich; Mary and John ‘Nipper’ Sullivan; and Paul B. and Mary Jeanette Lothrop of Centerville, all formerly of Weymouth. She loved and cared for all their children as her own.
