Marcia B Stewart

Harwichport - Marcia Broughton Stewart, 94, of Harwichport died at home April 27, 2018. She was born January 30, 1924 in West Harwich and graduated from Harwich High School. She met and married her husband Jim in 1944, while employed by the Third Air Force Headquarters in Tampa Florida. Upon his return from military duty overseas they began their life together in Endicott, New York. Jim's career with IBM then took the family to Rochester, Minnesota and later Sindelfingen, Germany. They retired to Harwichport in 1972.

Raising three children in Rochester, Marcia was involved in her young children's schools and many activities. Summers were spent with family in Harwichport, supervising beach days and enjoying family gatherings. She volunteered in Rochester and Cape Cod hospitals for many years. She loved her hometown of Harwich and was a member of the Harwich Historical Society.

Marcia found great pleasure in creating and maintaining her beautiful gardens. Living in Germany provided an opportunity for family travels in Europe which she later continued with her husband. Until very recently she enjoyed playing bridge with her longstanding bridge friends. She was a caring friend to many, always available to talk and listen, sharing her humor and positive outlook towards life and its challenges. She cherished her time spent with her grandsons and recently, meeting her new great-grandson.

Marcia is survived by Jim, her husband of 74 years; her children, Robert Stewart and his wife, Dee, of Stow, Massachusetts, James Stewart, Jr. and his wife, Sylvia, of Sillenbuch, Germany, and Karen Stewart and her partner Ted Heath of Barnstable; her grandchildren, James and Christian and great-grandchild Henry. She is also survived by her sister Beverly Karn of Harwichport, a niece and several nephews.

A memorial service will be held when family gathers at a later date. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to VNA Hospice for their support in her final days.
