Margaret Mary Townsend

Margaret Mary (Gilgun) Townsend of Falmouth, passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2019 in the JML Care Center, Falmouth.  She was 92.  She was the wife of the late John J. Townsend. They were married for 64 years until his death in 2010.  She is survived by her daughter, Margaret T. Townsend of Melrose, MA and son, Edward Townsend of Malden, MA. She was predeceased by her two sisters, Alice Lombardi of Malden and Jeanne Harrington of Malden and Tewksbury.

Margaret was born in Boston, the daughter of the late James J. and Mary (Drummey) Gilgun. Her family owned and operated Gilgun’s Milk business in the Maplewood section of Malden from 1886-1960. She and her beloved husband, John, bought a house in 1976 in a beautiful part of Falmouth where they enjoyed riding bicycles to the beach in the summer and spent many happy days. She also enjoyed cooking, especially grilling on her sundeck. She and John would often take day trips to Osterville and Chatham. She was a member of the Falmouth Baptist Church for many years and enjoyed Bible study, singing in church as well as the Sunday services of the pastor. Margaret was a season ticket holder to the Cape Cod Symphony in Hyannis. She enjoyed many concerts there with family members and friends.

A funeral service will take place at 11:00am on Friday, February 22nd in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main Street FALMOUTH CENTER. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Jones Rd., Falmouth, MA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to JML Care Center, 184 Ter Heun Drive, Falmouth MA  02540.
