Marion Frazer Garland

1927 ∼ 2020

Marion Frazer Garland,”Mana”, age 93, passed from this earth March 30, 2020 in W. Falmouth, MA.

She was born in Syracuse, NY in 1927 to William and Katharine Frazer. After growing up in Petersham,MA, Marion attended high school at Emma Willard School in NY. She was a talented artist and there is still a large mural she painted depicting Euclidian geometry on the wall at the school. After attending Syracuse University she spent a year living in Cuba with her cousins' family.

Initially in Hamilton, MA and then Falmouth, MA, Marion raised four rambunctious young boys. Her perseverance managed to infuse them with some measure of civility.  The family spent many joyful summers in Menauhant, interacting with four generations of family. She was also a volunteer at Falmouth Hospital. Marion subsequently spent time in Boston working at Saks 5th Ave and then moved to La Jolla, CA where she managed a spiritual bookstore called Look Within.

Returning to Falmouth, she was an influential grandmother devoted to all her grandchildren. She is remembered by all who knew her for her radiant blue eyes, vibrant spirit, joyfulness and wisdom. Thank you “Mana” from all of us.

She was predeceased by three sons, Jack H. Garland, William T. Garland and Robert B. Garland and her former husband Tudor Garland. She is survived by her son Douglas (Elizabeth) Garland of West Falmouth, MA; her grandchildren Amber (Tony) Leathem of Morehead, MN,  Reed (Shelby) Garland of Chandler, AZ, and Tasha, Wesley and Chase Garland of W. Falmouth, MA; and her great granddaughter Saylor Garland and daughter-in-law Debi Garland of Chandler, AZ.

A celebration of her life will be held when we can all come together.
