Mary Ann (Cahill) Munson passed away on December 27, 2017 due to heart failure following a 7-year battle with lung cancer.
Mary Ann was born on May 4, 1951 in Seaford, Delaware, the first of Tom & Mary Cahill’s eight children. After moving around the country as a child, she graduated from the College of St. Elizabeth, Morristown, New Jersey, in 1973, and she married Tom Munson, an officer in the Army and the third of seven siblings. She is survived by Tom; her children, Cate, Mary, and James; grandchildren Deirdre, Hannah, Matt, and McKinley; father-in-law General (ret) James Munson and many Cahill and Munson brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.
She and Tom enjoyed a 45-year partnership filled with love and laughter, effort and achievement. After taking time to raise her family, Mary Ann found great success in the corporate world, ultimately retiring as a Vice President of Human Resources. Her greatest satisfaction, however, was seeing her children start their own families, who she particularly cherished doting on, and cooking and gardening with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed mentoring young people, and found great satisfaction in the countless individuals who she helped to write their first resume, secure a new job, or re-enter the workforce after having a family.
For Mary Ann, Pine Lodge, the Munson family house in East Falmouth, was a comforting refuge to enjoy time with four generations of family and countless unexpected – but always welcome – guests who stopped to chat. Mary Ann was a skilled chef who delighted everyone with her culinary creativity. Cocktail hours turned to raucous dinners and then to quiet conversations with waves breaking in the distance, and children doing their best to sneak into and out of the house.
A memorial service celebrating Mary Ann’s life will be held on St Patrick’s Day, March 17, at 2 PM, at Menauhant's Grace Memorial Chapel, 451 Central Avenue, Falmouth.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Mary Ann Cahill Munson to Dress for Success, a charity designed to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. https://dressforsuccess.org/get-involved/donate
