Mary Ann Murphy

Mary Ann Murphy, 72, of Waquoit died in her home of natural causes on November 25, 2020.

She is survived by her two daughters Rebecca Burtis of Mashpee, Cristin Petisca of Fall River and her son Joseph Murphy of New York City.  She also has two granddaughters Erin Riley and Isabella Petisca.  She was known to her family as Nana.  She is also survived by her sister Pinky (Virginia) Frappier of Union, Oregon and brother Francis Barrett of Falmouth.  She was predeceased by her sister Patricia Brown, of Douglasville, GA.

Mary Ann was born to Beatrice (Gonsalves) and Francis Barrett in North Attleboro.  Her family moved to Falmouth in the early 1950’s.  She was raised on Beagle Lane in Teaticket where her father operated a beagle kennel, the Pineville Beagle Club.  Mary Ann graduated from Lawrence High School in Falmouth in 1966.

She had a green thumb, and her home was decorated with all manner of plant life inside and out.  She was never without a fish tank.  She always had dogs and until the last several years one or more cats.  There is barely a form of local animal that she did not have as a pet or nurse back to health.

Mary Ann was selfless and a loving mother and person.  She lived her life rooting for the underdog and would take in any stray animal.  She loved her years working in the Mashpee High School cafeteria and befriending untold students and staff.

There will be a private family service.  In lieu of flowers please make donations to Friends of Falmouth Dogs.
