Mary C. Murphy, 89, of New Seabury passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Joseph Arthur Murphy.
Mary was born on September 26, 1928 to the late Michael and Mary (Cannon) Hession in Boston, MA. She graduated from Jeremiah E. Burke High School in Dorchester, MA, and was a devout member of St. Peter’s Parish in Dorchester throughout her childhood. She was a women of strong faith, serving as Grand Regent of the Catholic Daughters of America. Mary worked as a legal secretary for the Boston Municipal Court system early in her career.
She married the love of her life, Joseph Arthur Murphy on October 12, 1950. The two built a life together in Westwood, MA where they raised their three children, remained active members of their community and lived for over 30 years. While living in Westwood Mary was well known and loved in her community in her various roles. She was a respected realtor in Westwood, volunteered as a Cub Scout Den mother for 5 years, was President of the Young Women’s Club of Westwood and also served as president of the Ladies of the Lions Club. Mary and Joseph had been residents of New Seabury for over 30 years and especially loved summering in Popponessett. While residing in New Seabury, Mary true to character, remained active and social in her community. She was member of the Cape Cod Golf League, charter member of Marco Island Golf club and served as President to the New Seabury Women’s Golf Association.
Mary had many hobbies in which she enjoyed, she was an avid gardener, an exceptional bridge player and golfer, and was especially involved in her community. In more recent years Mary enjoyed volunteering for several beloved charities including those that benefit the homeless as well as breast cancer awareness. Most of all Mary enjoyed spending times with her family and friends, and cherished her many pets she had throughout her life.
In addition to her loving husband Joseph, Mary is survived by her three children; Michael Murphy and his wife Mary, of Boston, MA, Patrick Murphy and his wife Ana of Sarasota, FL, and Denise Andrade and husband Stephen of Tampa, FL; her four grandchildren Matthew, Joseph, Derek, and Teresa, and many loving friends.
Mary’s family would also like to thank the fantastic staff at Falmouth Hospital who treated Mary so kindly in her final days. A visitation will be held at the Chapman Cole and Gleason Funeral Home, 74 Algonquin Ave. (Rte 151) Mashpee on Friday, September 7, 2018 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Christ the King Church, 3 Job’s Fishing Rd., Mashpee on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 10:30am. Burial will follow at Great Neck Woods Cemetery in Mashpee.
