Mary C. Varros of Yarmouth Port passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 19, 2019. She was 91. Mary was born in Derby, CT, June 5, 1928 to the late David and Mary (Lawlor) Condon. She grew up in Connecticut with two sisters where she attended Hamden Hall Country Day School, Class of 1946.
Mary graduated with a degree in Spanish from Trinity College in Washington D.C., Class of 1950. She was employed by the Central Intelligence Agency and served in Washington, D.C., Havana, Cuba and Bogota, Columbia. She became a homemaker upon marriage, and through her husband’s profession, she and her family lived Mexico City, Mexico, Taipei, Taiwan, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Rockville, Maryland, Ottawa, Canada, and Alexandria, Virginia. She and her husband retired to South Yarmouth, Massachusetts in 1984. Mary moved to Yarmouth Port, MA in 2012 after the passing of her beloved husband.
Mary enjoyed bridge, bowling, knitting, needlepoint, crossword and word puzzles, singing, volunteering, book and women’s clubs. She was an active member of St. Pius X Parish.
She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, George P. Varros, a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State, whom she married in Paris, France in 1957. She is survived by her children, Mary Anne Bowers and her husband Michael of Walpole, MA, David C. Varros and his wife Donna of Frederick, MD, George P. Varros, Jr. of Mt. Airy, MD, her sisters Margaret C. Kimball of Contoocook, NH and Alice C. Dunn of Simsbury, CT, her four grandchildren, David C. Varros, Jr., Kimberly Powell, Melissa Varros, Katelynn Varros, her great grandson Mason Powell, and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Pius X Church, Station Ave., South Yarmouth, MA, on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at 10:00 AM. Burial will be private.
