EAST FALMOUTH - Mary Theresa Cantwell Yando, was born in Groton CT on December 27, 1928 to William and Josephine (Sullivan) Cantwell. She died in her home surrounded by loved ones on August 27, 2019. Mary was one of four children. She was predeceased by her brother William, and leaves behind her brother James and her sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Bob Corbin.
Mary’s father served in the US Coast Guard, which moved the family around for some years, but they eventually settled in Falmouth MA in 1941 when Mary was 12. She graduated from Lawrence High School in Falmouth in 1947. Mary then started a long employment with Cape and Vineyard Electric Company. On August 4, 1951 she was married to Anthony J. Yando with whom she spent the next 58 years until his passing in 2009. They built their home in Teaticket where they raised their family of seven children.
Mary will be missed greatly for her very unique spirit, wild sense of humor and quick wit. She was very caring and generous; always finding a new organization in which to make donations. To her family, Mary was a great source of love, encouragement, support, humor and fun.
Mary leaves five children: Anthony J. Yando Jr., Ginger Sughrue, Randi Sharek, Jacklyn Cusack, and Tara Yando-Turley; as well as her sons-in-law, Scott Sharek, Chris Cusack and Scott Turley. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony; daughters, Victoria and Jodi Beth; sons-in-law, Michael Sughrue and Lee Fuller; and grandson, Dennis M. Sughrue.
A visitation will be held from 9:00-10:30am on Monday, September 9th at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Falmouth MA. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am at St. Patrick Church, 511 Main Street, Falmouth. Burial will following at 12:30pm at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne MA.
