Mary G. Hersey

1931 ∼ 2017

Mary G. (Mulvihill) Hersey, of Centerville, died peacefully with family and friends by her side on February 23, 2017. Mary was born November 21, 1931 in Worcester MA, the only daughter of Francis and Anna (Moynihan) Mulvihill.

Mary graduated from South High School, Class of ‘49, and from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing as an RN, in 1951.

She later graduated Summa Cum Laude from Bridgewater State with a BS in Sociology and from Salve Regina College with a BS in Nursing.

Mary started as a visiting nurse in Worcester. It was one of her favorite memories. She moved to Cape Cod with her family in 1969. She worked at Cape Cod Hospital for 23 years, before retiring as the Nursing Quality Assurance Supervisor in 1995.  She and her husband wintered in Englewood FL where she supervised the Tangerine Woods Nursing Group. Her passion for nursing made her a tenacious advocate for her patients.

Mary was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Thomas, in 2012. She is survived by her daughter Maribeth (Konrad) of Durham, NC; her son Michael (Barbara) of Centerville, MA and her grandsons Matthew and Joshua.

She will be remembered for her sense of humor, her fondness for family and friends (and dogs,) her passion for travel and crosswords and her love of the sun and the sand. Mary and Tom were life-long members of Wequaquet Lake Yacht Club.

In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to: Adult Supportive Day Program, Barnstable Senior Center, 825 Falmouth Rd, Hyannis MA 02601.

A Funeral Mass will be held later in the spring.
